Job Description Summary:
The Director of HR Strategic Plans & Projects plays a pivotal role in our Human Resources department, reporting directly to the Vice Chancellor of Human Resources and leading a team of Process Analysts. This position oversees the alignment of HR activities with institutional strategic objectives, implementing practices to enhance efficiency and ensure effective execution of HR initiatives. This includes optimizing the Workday Human Capital Management (HCM) user experience. Drawing on your expertise in Workday HCM, project management, data analysis, consultation, and influence, you will manage competing priorities, achieve impactful results, and foster clarity and transparency for stakeholders regarding HR's role in driving positive workplace change across short, mid, and long-term timelines.

Job Description:

Description of Duties and Tasks

1) Team Management
  • Provide leadership, direction, and growth opportunities to a team of process analysts, setting clear expectations, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Allocate resources effectively, including personnel and time, to ensure that projects are completed on schedule.
  • Listen actively to the analyst team's findings and recommendations. Engage in constructive dialogue to understand their analysis thoroughly and provide feedback to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Help analysts overcome obstacles and challenges encountered during projects, offering guidance and support to facilitate problem-solving.


2) Strategic Planning
  • Utilize organizational and HR data to assess current and future needs of the organization.
  • Collaborate with the HR Vice Chancellor to define strategic goals and objectives for the HR department.
  • Conduct regular analysis to identify trends and proactively address HR challenges.


3) Project Management
  • Lead project management to support HR leadership in the planning, execution, and monitoring of HR projects to ensure they align with strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional HR teams and stakeholders (such as IT, Operations, Finance, Analytics, and Academics) to define and support execution of project scope, goals, and deliverables.
  • Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, key performance indicators, objective key results, resource allocation, and budget.


4) Data-Driven Decision Making
  • Analyze HR and organizational metrics and data to inform decision-making processes.
  • Provide insights and recommendations based on data analysis to enhance HR effectiveness.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices to ensure HR strategies remain innovative and competitive.


5) Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work closely with HR teams, department heads, and senior leadership to understand business priorities and integrate them into HR strategies.
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration between HR and other departments where appropriate to ensure buy-in and adoption or execution of initiatives.
  • Liaise between HR and key stakeholders to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Advise and make recommendations to the HR Vice Chancellor and HR leadership on effective stakeholder engagement and collaboration.


6) Initiative Deployment
  • Oversee the implementation of HR initiatives and projects, ensuring successful execution.
  • Monitor progress, evaluate results, and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Provide regular updates to the HR Vice Chancellor on project status and outcomes.


7) Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and recommend steps for process improvement within the HR department to the HR Vice Chancellor.
  • Develop and implement solutions to enhance HR operational efficiency.
  • Stay informed about HR best practices and industry benchmarks to drive continuous improvement.


Knowledge
  • HR best practices, industry standards, employment laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • HR management principles, practices, and processes
  • Strategic planning for alignment of initiatives with organizational goals
  • Use of professional discretion and confidentiality.
  • Tools, technology, and methodology for data analysis to derive meaningful insights.
  • Data-driven decision-making processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of project management methodologies.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and trends.
  • Leadership qualities to manage a team of direct reports and guide projects and initiatives of other HR team members who are not direct reports.

Technology Skills
  • Ability to navigate and understand Workday HCM configuration options to engage in meaningful conversations and collaborate effectively with the configuration team.
  • Experience in working in an Agile and Waterfall delivery environment.
  • Must understand the system development lifecycle process.
  • A variety of spreadsheet, word processing, database, and presentation software.
  • Ability to develop and analyze reports and statistical data in a variety of mediums.
  • Ability to coordinate and execute results among stakeholders in a remote/hybrid and multi-unit environment.


Required Work Experience
  • Three (3) years of related work experience, including 1 year of supervisory experience.


Completion of the ACC Supervisor Certificate Series Program will satisfy the supervisory experience required for this position.

Preferred Work Experience
  • Three (3) years of proven success in strategic planning and project management.
  • Two (2) years supervisory experience.
  • One (1) year configuration of Workday's Human Capital Management System or working as a Workday HCM professional.
  • Management experience in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with Asana, Sharepoint, and Google Suite.
  • Software adoption and integrations.
  • Human resources or organizational leadership or design.


Required Education
  • Bachelor's degree.


Four (4) years of related work experience may substitute for this education requirement. Applicants who substitute work experience to meet the education requirement must use additional related work experience to meet the years of "Required Work Experience" for this position. Preferred Education
  • Bachelor's/Master's degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field.


Special Requirements
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation for travel in the Austin area as required.


Other Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or Certified ScrumMaster (CSM).
  • HR Professional licensure (PHR, SPHR, CP, SCP, HRIP).


Physical Requirements
  • Ability to travel between campuses as needed
  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
