ART & DESIGN - The Department of Art and Design at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly), San Luis Obispo seeks a one-year full time professor of art history in the field of Asian Art, to begin September 16, 2024. Candidates may have expertise in the art, architecture, and/or visual culture of any geographic region and period in Asian history, broadly defined. A specialization in contemporary Asian art is preferred, but not required. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate expertise in interdisciplinary approaches and current methodologies.

The selected candidate will teach two to three classes a quarter as well as 1-unit independent studies as needed. Teaching responsibilities will include an upper-level survey of Asian Art, an upper-level elective in Asian Art specific to the candidate's field, as well as large sections of the lower-division GE survey course Introduction to Visual Arts. Candidates must be enthusiastic about teaching in an undergraduate, student-centered program that administers a BFA degree in three concentration areas (Graphic Design; Photography & Video; and Studio Art) as well as minors in Photography & Video, Studio, and Art History. There are no service requirements for this position.

Initial rank and salary for lecturer faculty are based on professional experience and educational background and are determined by the hiring department. Most new lecturers are hired at the Lecturer A or B rank. As of July 2023, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:
Lecturer A: $5,007-$6,359
Lecturer B: $5,925-$12,594
Lecturer C: $6,500-$13,831
Lecturer D: $8,184-$14,487

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

PhD or ABD in Art History or related discipline with a specialization in art, architecture, or visual culture of Asia, broadly defined. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of college-level teaching experience as well as scholarly activity.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Two or more years of college-level teaching experience is preferred. Preference will also be given to those with experience in working with underserved populations and fostering a collaborative, supportive and inclusive environment.
