Department Statement:
Colgate’s Counseling Center is committed to providing high-quality, confidential, ethical, and culturally affirming mental health services to Colgate University students. Staff members work as a team to offer services from an integrated clinical/developmental model to assist students as they pursue their education.

Accountabilities:
Primarily responsible for providing confidential counseling/psychological services provided to students. Areas of focus include responsibility for:
  • effective provision of services via individual and group therapy;
  • appropriate and effective crisis response;
  • timely and effective on-call support of after-hours mental health needs;
  • quality of treatment measured by overall improvement in symptoms and client self-report;
  • client satisfaction with treatment and timely response and provision of services;
  • providing expert consultation and information to other administrative staff;
  • ensuring confidentiality and maintenance of records in compliance with professional standards;
  • providing all services following ethical standards, and in compliance with state law;
  • ensuring continuity of care between on-campus and off campus resources regarding individual student mental health care, to include case management; and
  • effective outreach.



As part of this role, the incumbent is responsible for the following:
  • as required, develop and administer specific programs (e.g. group therapy, outreach); and
  • as required, may be responsible for providing effective advice, counsel, and leadership on University committees.


Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • Must have completed all requirements (eg- coursework, thesis, practicum/internship) toward completing a Master’s degree in social work, clinical or counseling psychology, or a closely-related field, by start date
  • Multicultural competence and skill in working with students from a diversity of backgrounds
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in working at a college/university counseling center, and/or with college-aged populations
  • A collaborative spirit of warmth, acceptance, respect, and trust towards colleagues
  • Well-developed counseling and crisis intervention skills
  • Self-motivated and self-directed, able to work independently while also contributing positively to a team-oriented environment
  • Familiarity with short-term models of counseling and psychotherapy
  • Experience in providing outreach and consultation services to students from underrepresented groups and identities highly desired
  • Licensed as a social worker or mental health clinician in NY or expected to attain license within one year of hire


Education
A Master’s degree in counseling, social work, or related mental health field is required.
