The Department of Studio Art at the College of Charleston invites applications for a full-time, Visiting Assistant Professor position in painting, starting in August of 2024. Visiting appointments at the College of Charleston are made on an annual basis. This is a 1-year visiting appointment, without possibility of renewal. The successful candidate must have an MFA in Painting. Preference will be given to applicants with at least two years of college teaching experience beyond a graduate assistantship.
Teaching responsibilities: a 4/4 course load, teaching introductory to advanced painting courses, a general education humanities art foundations course and possibly an Intermediate-level, interdisciplinary studio course focused on contemporary themes to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors. Position includes departmental service and student advising duties.
One of 6 departments/programs in the School of the Arts, the Studio Art Department promotes creative productivity and close student mentoring in 5 areas of study: drawing, painting, printmaking, photography and sculpture. Founded in 1770, the College of Charleston is a nationally recognized public liberal arts and sciences university located on a scenic campus in historic downtown Charleston, South Carolina. The student body numbers approximately 12,000 in undergraduate and graduate programs combined.
