Job Summary:
The Department of Criminal Justice in the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Criminal Justice. Our Criminal Justice program provides students a hands-on education and experience they can build on in law enforcement, criminal justice, and social justice (i.e., violence prevention and intervention) careers.

Essential Responsibilities:
Teaching Excellence
- Teach in both the graduate and undergraduate programs and advise students in person and online (visit our website, www.coppin.edu, for a comprehensive overview of the department and its course offerings).
- Teach with technology (i.e., Blackboard Learning Management System -Blackboard Ultra). Familiarity with using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e., Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
- Stay current on trends in specialty area and demonstrate scholarship through the presentation of papers and publishing in peer-reviewed scholarly journals.
- Ability to write grants and assist with the securing of external funding for department initiatives.
- Serve on departmental, college and university-wide committees as a representative.
- Serve as advisor for designated clubs and organizations.
- Provide supervision of students in field internship courses as necessary.
- Support internal and external partners by serving in a subject matter capacity in efforts to stay current in the field.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Sociology (Administration of Justice track), Criminal Justice, Criminology or a closely related field is required.
Minimum of five (5) years of teaching criminal justice and law enforcement courses on the undergraduate and/or graduate level in the areas of law enforcement, the courts, corrections, juvenile justice, or related area
General Requirements:
- Must demonstrate strengths in the following areas: a strong record of teaching across the criminal justice curriculum.
- Excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
- Strong knowledge of criminal justice policy, practice, research, and publication experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse team of faculty.
- Demonstrated commitment to securing external funding.
- Ability to support students in identifying internship and career opportunities (i.e., current and post-graduation).
- Ability to navigate systems and technology platforms that contribute to student employment and career success.
- Computer experience with Microsoft Office required.
- Experience with Course and Learning Management Software (i.e., Blackboard, PeopleSoft, and Tegrity) in support of on campus and on line coursework, preferred.
- Some evening and weekend hours required.
- Licensed master social worker preferred.
- Valid U.S. driver's license
- Demonstrated excellent written communication and public speaking skills
- Demonstrated commitment to higher academic and professional standards

- Demonstrated excellent planning, communication, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to work, effectively, with diverse groups of people
