JOB SUMMARY:
Planning and implementing an educational program for all assigned students based on the IEP, the VA SOLs, the students' abilities, skill levels, individual learning styles and their abilities. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
1. PIan an individualized instructional program, which meets the academic needs of each student.
2. Develop and implement lesson plans according to the curriculum program assigned and show written evidence of preparation as required.
3. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodation for individual student differences.
4. Plan and use appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned.
5. Conduct assessment of student learning styles and uses results for instructional activities.
6. In concert with behavior staff and school counselor, develop and implement a behavior management plan which promotes the social skills, study habits and behaviors necessary to succeed in public school.
7. Engage in ongoing student evaluation in order to assist with appropriate program planning and placement.
8. Cooperate with other members of the staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives and methods according to state requirements.
9. Use technologies in the teaching/learning process.
10. Assist students in analyzing and improving methods and habits of study.
11. Consistently assess student achievement through formal and informal methods.
12. Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities as approved by the school.
13. Present a positive role model for students that support the mission of the school.
14. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of the students.
15. Manage student behavior in the classroom and administers discipline according to board policies/admnistrative regulations.
16. Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
17. Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
18. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with students and their parents/guardians.
19. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents/guardians and community members.
20. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
21. Participate in staff development program.
22. Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional improvement.
23. Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
24. Keep informed of and comply with Virginia Department of Education and Elite Academy's regulations and policies.
25. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents as required.
26. Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
27. Maintain own Professional Development File, yearly updates of CPl, CPR and license (if applicable).
28. Other duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Holds or is eligible to hold a Virginia certificate, license for position, able to obtain a provisional license or qualifies for a provisional license for full certification for a Virginia certificate or license. Such Virginia certificate or license shall contain one or more special endorsements for teaching children with Emotional Disability, Learning Disability and or lntellectual Disability.
2. Salary commiserate with experience.
3. Prefer Degree in Instruction.
4. Prefer one or more years experience teaching special education students, addressing both IEP and VA SOLs.
