About the Department:

The Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science (GGS) offers an outstanding environment to study and perform cutting-edge research in remote sensing, geography, geoinformatics, Earth systems science, and their various sub-disciplines. About the Position:

The Assistant Professor in the Department of Geography and Geoinformation Science will teach graduate and undergraduate courses, and conduct research in areas such as (i) cartography and geovisualization, (ii) geospatial data science, and (iii) quantitative remote sensing and digital image processing. The incumbent in the position will advise students and will also participate in department and campus service committees at levels commensurate with career stage expectations.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop an externally funded research portfolio that will advance the mission of GGS, advise graduate students at both the master's and Ph.D. levels;
  • Provide core support to our successful and growing programs in Geography and Geoinformation Science;
  • Teach core and advanced courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels (the equivalent of two courses per semester); and
  • Develop new courses as needed in areas of specialization.
Required Qualifications:
  • Terminal degree in a related field; Ph.D. in geography, geoinformatics, data science, or a closely related field is required by time of appointment;
  • Ability to develop a significant and active research agenda in a field of specialization;
  • A demonstrated record of publishing peer-reviewed scholarship; and
  • Ability to teach courses offered by the department and a field of specialization.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching; and
  • The potential of seeking/securing external research grants.
