About the Position

The Admission Counselor will be involved in all aspects of the general admission process: recruitment travel, interaction with prospective students and their families, interviewing, application review, and the selection of candidates. In addition, the Admission Counselor will be involved in the coordination and support of our efforts to recruit and enroll students from diverse backgrounds and identities, particularly those historically and currently underrepresented at Haverford. The Admission Counselor will also be involved in other aspects of admission operations as assigned by the Dean and/or Director of Admission, and that may depend upon specific skills and interests.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Visit high schools, attend college fairs and conferences, and interview students to recruit within a defined national territory
  • Read and evaluate applications and participate in the committee process for selecting candidates
  • Interview prospective candidates on and off campus
  • Conduct information sessions
  • Answer admission inquiries from prospective students, parents, high school counselors, and others
  • Build and maintain relationships with high schools and community-based organizations
  • Oversee student employees (tour guides and in-office hosts)
  • Plan and implement various on and off-campus programs and initiatives
Other responsibilities may include, but not be limited to:
  • Serve as liaison with other campus offices and/or departments
  • Work with alumni admission volunteers
  • Plan and implement various on-campus programs
  • Support day-to-day admission processes
Line of Report: The Admission Counselor reports directly to the Associate Director of Admission.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree
Professional Competencies:
  • Understanding the value of a liberal arts education
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially with Word and Excel, and skills with calendaring tools
  • Comfort with and ability to learn about new databases, web-based data management systems, and other reporting mechanisms
  • Comfort and experience with high levels of discretion and the handling of confidential material and information
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to relate to a broad range of constituents (students, parents, alumni, high school counselors, etc.)
  • Appreciation for and sensitivity to a variety of backgrounds and traditions from which students may come
  • Interest in and facility with issues of access, diversity, and inclusion
  • Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively

Special Requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 12 background checks
  • Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers' License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
