The Security Guard works in support of the University Police Department to provide the University community with a safe and secure environment in which to live, work, and learn. This position is a Grade: 6-40 with an approximate salary range of $33,390-$40,080 and is subject to change based on experience, skills and qualifications

1. Provides safety services

•Responds to campus emergencies (e.g., accidents, behavioral, criminal, fire, medical, etc.)
•Responds to calls for Fire Trouble alarms, Door Prop alarms, Forced Door alarms.
•Provides assistance to police on Fire Alarms in all campus buildings.
•Responds to and provides services to students, faculty and staff for room/office/building. lockouts, jump starts personal vehicles, and provides walking safety escorts.
•Responsible for monthly emergency phone checks and AED checks throughout campus.
•Completes all corresponding reports related to safety activity on records management system..
•Knows, understands and follows all department and university policies and procedures.

2. Provides security services

•Checks and secures buildings i.e., inspects interiors, checks doors/windows and locks/unlocks buildings for special events.
•Disperses unruly crowds at public gatherings.
•Monitors residence halls and Greek housing regarding social policies, rules, regulations and violations.
•Reports on maintenance and safety issues across campus.
•Security guards patrol all aspects of campus 24/7 in all weather conditions.

3. Emergency response

•First responder for all types of campus emergencies: accidents, behavioral, criminal, fire, medical, etc
•May administer emergency medical assistance.
•Assists patrol with emergency response when needed.

4. Crime prevention and community outreach

•Familiarizes and participates in crime prevention activities and initiatives for students and/or other campus constituents.
•Makes community contacts while on duty. Establishes rapport with students, faculty, staff and visitors.
•Willingly participates in community policing and programs.
•May be assigned to community policing duty.
•Maintains a customer service attitude and treats all individuals with dignity and respect regardless of the situation.

5. Paperwork/administration

•Responsible for ensuring that all reports and incidents are recorded properly and professionally for each incident in a timely manner during the shift-same day of incident.
•Understands and follows department and university policies and procedures.
•Uniform is always neat and professional
•Spare uniform is available in the event of an emergency.
•Maintains all department issued equipment.
•Able to work without supervision.
•Arrives on time and fully prepared for shift and duties.
•Knows and understands all administrative aspects of the position.

• The duties of the position do not allow for a remote work option; the employee in this position will be required to work on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community

• This position is considered Essential Services Staff; Essential Services Staff are required to report to campus and remain during inclement weather and other emergency situations; they are defined as those needed to deliver student services and maintain campus facilities, campus safety and security

• This position works with minors

• This position is responsible for driving university-owned vehicles as a routine function, therefore a valid Driver's License and a good driving record is required

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Critical thinking and decision making

Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
