Church Musician
Church Musician Wanted
Little Fork Episcopal Church is a vibrant intergenerational congregation who is blessed to gather each week to worship in a historical church which has witnessed the prayers of countless people over the centuries. While our building is historic, our approach to being a small church is innovative, inclusive, and creative.
We are looking for a talented musician and singer to provide instrumental and vocal leadership for our Sunday morning 10:00 am service. We have an electronic organ and were recently gifted a Steinway Model A, so we are open to either a pianist or organist.
Responsibilities:
• Lead music during worship, including both singing and accompanying the congregation.
• Collaborate with the Rector to select music for services.
• Offer (piano or organ) music at all principal services of the church including but not limited to Sunday 10:00 a.m. worship services.
• Help expand the congregation's repertoire of hymns by teaching songs before services.
• Provide accompaniment and/or provide solo anthems, instrumental or vocal, on occasion.
• Provide music details electronically for preparation of service bulletins.
• Hire professional musicians within the parameters of the parish music budget. Although there is no choir, occasional small ensemble work which includes recruitment of members, teaching and accompanying them to enhance special liturgies, is expected.
• Manage the care, maintenance and tuning of piano and organ.
• Additional compensation provided for weddings and funerals, but the musician will not be required to play for these services.
Preferred Education and Professional Experience:
• Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts in Music (preferred, not required)
• Proficiency playing the piano and reading music.
• Experience with choral singing and ideally leading group singing.
• Three years of current experience as a piano accompanist
• Experience in leading music in a liturgical church (preferred, not required)
Hours and Compensation:
• This is a part time position that requires no more than 3 hours on site on Sundays (usually 9 am – 12 pm). In addition, the musician will be expected to meet with the priest for planning once a month for up to 2 hours. Rehearsal time can take place at the church or any place the musician prefers. In total, we estimate this position will take 6 hours each week.
• During certain seasons of the church year, the Musician will be expected to play for evening or special occasion services. The combination of Sunday morning and special services will not exceed an annual average of 5 services each month.
• The musician will have up to 6 Sundays off each year for vacation and continuing education.
• This will be a salaried position that has been budgeted for $9000 - $12000 annually depending on experience level. Benefits are not provided.
