The Publications Department at Salisbury University is accepting applications for Graphic Artist I (Contingent I) .

Job Summary

Creates, designs and produces routine assignments for printed and electronic communications based on University Brand standards and supervisor’s requirements. Builds creative solutions based on content, uniformity of brand/messaging, cost-effectiveness, timeliness and quality. Designs original materials as well as revise and update existing materials. Some examples are business cards, posters, flyers, displays, newsletters, and digital signage. Discusses design concepts at various stages of completion with supervisor or other designers and makes changes as directed.  Collaborates with various administrators, faculty, staff and students. Assists clients with assessing communication needs. Regularly contacts clients to keep projects on schedule and maintains a high quality of customer service.  Confirms all previous production specifications and updates as necessary. Proofreads all materials. Provides exceptional customer service, works well within the team and works well under pressure to meet deadlines. Collaborates with other designers, Copy Center and MARCOM staff to meet expectations and develop successful marketing and promotional materials. The Director will review designs on a regular basis.

Authority and Accountability

This position reports to the Director of Publications.

There are budgetary responsibilities indirectly; the designer will identify best vendors, pricing and scheduling for orders coming through the Publications office and assigned to them. They will plan and prepare requisitions ensuring all production bids/estimates are accurately and appropriately written, Multiple bids may be requested from vendors to meet university and State while assures these jobs meet all printing regulations and industry standards.

Required/Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, art, or related field; 1-2 years of experience in in graphic design, art, or related industry; Proficiency with design software: Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. 4-color and digital print production;

This is an entry-level graphic artist position that requires the ability to create a high volume of design and print production. Ability to create design solutions that have a clear and positive visual impact; to work within the confines of the established University brand and graphics policies; to have a professional approach to time, costs and deadlines; to develop timelines and production budget estimates. Ability to keep current with emerging technologies in new media, particularly design programs such as InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat, plus Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work as part of a team with editors, photographers, other designers, clients, Copy Center, Marcom Team and vendors. Skill in proofreading.  Knowledge of traditional and digital printing best practices preferred. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 

Preferred Qualifications

Higher education experience; Knowledge of high-speed copiers; Knowledge of Quark-X-Press, Pinpointe, Jira and Poppulo platforms.
