SUMMARY: Performs a variety of semi-skilled duties and assists in various technical fieldwork associated
with the finfish program. This is a senior fish technician and/or natural resources worker and will be at
times an in field supervisor to Fish Technical Specialist 1 employees. This level is considered an
experienced journey-level technician. Position will work with the Net Pen program. Will be a Tech Lead
during construction of new Net Pen facility Structure. This will be a four month project position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participates in the planning and construction of new netpen frame structure
Operates large equipment, all terrain forklift, etc.
Constructs large steel components, using heavy equipment, power and hand tools
Communicates progress and report activities to site supervisor
Operates boats and has the ability to tow the completed structure across bay to anchoring site
Assists netpen staff with setup of new structure, weight bottles, ropes, railings, etc.
Assures organization/inventory/and security of all equipment, tools, and supplies
Assures security and safety of all staff participating in the construction process
Supervises Fish Technical Specialists 1 and 2 employees in the field when Biologist is not present
Performs any natural resources related work as required by the programs of the department
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has supervisory responsibilities. This position will assist and supervise staff with the construction of the new Net Pen Facility Structure.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelors of Arts and one year of natural resources or related experience.
OR Associates of Arts Degree and three years of natural resources or related experience. OR High School
graduation or GED, and five years of natural resources or related experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance
instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak
effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole
numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent to draw and interpret bar
graphs.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in
situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in
written, oral, diagram, or schedule form;
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Valid Drivers license. Must have supervisory skills.
Experience operating heavy equipment/ machinery.

vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more); peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up
and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point); depth perception (three-

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions
and outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently required to work near moving mechanical
parts; in high, precarious places; and around vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or
airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock. The
employee will be working around heavy equipment, boats, generators, air compressors. The employee
will be required to use tools such as impact wrenches, hand wrenches, sockets, and a variety of other
tools. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
Most of the job duties will be required to perform outdoors in all types of weather. Also must be
comfortable being able to work in and around open waters.
OTHER: This position will be required to work weekends and holidays occasionally.
