Summary:
Adjunct faculty in Stevenson University Online will teach master's course in the Forensic Science program, which may include one or more of the following fields: Crime scene investigation; forensic chemistry including drug analysis; trace evidence examination and toxicology; and forensic biology to include serology and immunology; DNA analysis, and DNA databases. Courses are taught in an online format. Student advising, as it relates to the course being taught is expected. Your responsibilities may include involvement in off-campus, evening or weekend duties. Stevenson University Online may also provide you with a more specific set of job expectations. Department: Stevenson University Online: Forensic Science

Education/Experience:
Master’s degree in Forensic Science or a related field plus a minimum of three years’ experience in forensic science analysis in a reputable crime laboratory or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous teaching experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Ability:
Possess a working knowledge of the following instruments that are in your specific forensic discipline: compound light, comparison, and polarizing microscopes, UV/Vis and Infrared Spectrophotometers, Gas Chromatograph, HPLC, and GC/MS, capillary electrophoresis, and DNA analytical equipment.

Read, listen, and communicate information and ideas through spoken and written language.

Use various means of communication (e.g. telephone, computer, other electronic devices) to work with students and peers.

Demonstrate commitment to excellence in teaching, service and technology application in the classroom.

Keep current in the field of forensic science.

Familiarity with instructional techniques designed to assist students of varying preparation levels and abilities.

Excellent interpersonal and group communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of students.

Excellent communication skills are essential and a commitment to excellence in teaching, service and technology application in the classroom.

Ability to effectively utilize technology including WebExpress, Blackboard, and university electronic templates such as the syllabus template.

Demonstrated ability to teach and evaluate graduate students.

Working (or advanced) knowledge in Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Word and Excel

Ability to work with students of diverse backgrounds

Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed

Physical Requirements:
Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Sitting, standing, walking, talking, hearing, keyboarding, repetitive motions, and close visual acuity necessary. Position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time. Position requires the ability to speak clearly and effectively for an extended period of time.

Essential Functions:
Teaching responsibilities include time spent in developing on-line course(s) materials, conducting virtual laboratory demonstrations and experiments;; maintaining and improving competence in subjects being taught; preparing teaching materials; conferring with students on course materials; directing individual and group studies and practical; reviewing written or online examinations and papers; evaluating presentations; and supervising independent study projects.

Professional service implies the use of academic and professional expertise to serve your profession, the community, and the University.

Engage in instructional activity totaling no more than 1,000 contact hours per academic year.

As part of Instructional Activity load:
o Prepare courses in accordance with published faculty workload guidelines and departmental requirements,
o Prepare and distribute course syllabi according to university and departmental requirements,
o Grade all assignments, quizzes, projects, and/or exams as described in the course syllabi,
o Meet with students (in person or virtual) as related to instructional activity,
o Evaluate, update, and revise courses regularly,
o Participate in the assessment activities of the Department, Division, and University as directed.
o Administrative responsibilities include writing syllabi, grading course work, submitting final grades.

Student advising includes time spent meeting or online with students regarding academic, curricular and career matters.
