Job Purpose
The director of CEROC provides vision and leadership to the university in the area of cybersecurity, including education, research, and outreach. The director is responsible for leading the growth and sustainability of academic cybersecurity initiatives and outreach efforts in support of the cybersecurity workforce development pipeline across all domains and fields, as charged to CEROC by the state of Tennessee, and growing cybersecurity research at Tennessee Tech. The director represents Tennessee Tech and Tennessee, as appropriate, in industry, state, and national forums in cybersecurity. The director supervises and ensures CEROC's continued designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity (NCAE-C) in Cyber Defense Education. The director also provides leadership in developing cyber-related curricula across the university and Tennessee. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Engineering and will have tenure in the Department of Computer Science.

Essential Functions
Managing overall CEROC operations, including a state-appropriated annual center budget of over $1,000,000 in addition to ongoing externally-funded grants; increasing CEROC’s research and education stature and funding by developing and implementing strategies such as leading university-wide efforts in cybersecurity, research and education; developing strong external and internal partnerships, especially those leading to multi-million, multi-investigator, multi-disciplinary grants and contracts; working with the Vice President for Research, the Associate Dean for Research and other appropriate partners in interacting with funding agencies, and other external constituents; working with CEROC Associate Directors to develop and coordinate programs to promote cybersecurity research, outreach, and teaching activities across the university and across the state through dual enrollment courses; meeting regularly with the CEROC Advisory Board for feedback and suggestions for improvement; engaging with students by teaching at least one cybersecurity course per year. The director is responsible for maintaining current designations (e.g., CAE-CD), obtaining other designations consistent with the center’s strategic mission, and increasing the number of cybersecurity-related graduates at the university and the cybersecurity-trained workforce across the state.

Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in computer science or closely related field; qualify for a faculty appointment at the rank of associate professor in Computer Science; experience in supervising the research of graduate students through a Ph.D.; proven track record of externally-funded research and high-quality scholarly achievement; working knowledge of government and industrial funding sources; proven ability to assemble successful research teams and commitment to working collaboratively with people from a diverse range of disciplines and groups; and superior communication skills and strong interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators of the university and external constituents.

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of, and experience in, fiscal management and compliance with oversight of grants, contracts and major research programs; success as a leader of a department, college, or university-level initiative; three years of administrative experience; experience with NCAE-C CD designation and the CyberCorps SFS and/or Department of Defense Cyber Scholarship programs; experience in identifying funding opportunities, establishing priorities, and leading innovative strategic efforts critical to the success of the university’s research programs; experience in planning, implementing, and sustaining comprehensive research centers or programs; experience in leading major research programs including obtaining resources, building teams; and obtaining funding from multiple federal sources such as NSF, DoE, DoD, industry, and state agencies; and a record of outstanding teaching ability to effectively represent the college, university, and profession.

Work Hours:

Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position.
