Position Title:  Food Service – part time - (no remote work/in office only)

The Unified School District of De Pere is seeking 3 individuals for entry-level positions in our School Nutrition department at Part-Time School Nutrition (Food Service) employees.  These are school-year positions (summers off). One position is Altmayer Elementary (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.), one position is at Dickinson Elementary (10 a.m. – 1 p.m.), and one position is at De Pere High School (10:30 a.m. – 1:45 p.m.).  Responsible for providing the optimum in cleanliness and safety with regards to the equipment, utensils and general work environment of the kitchens in support of the orderly production, delivery, and cleanup of the school kitchen and cafeteria.  

Pay is $15.11 per hour.  Receive paid leave benefits of paid sick leave, paid personal leave and holiday pay.  

Statement of Purpose, Goal:    To provide the optimum in cleanliness and safety with regard to the equipment, utensils and general work environment of the kitchens; in support of the orderly production, delivery and cleanup of school kitchen and cafeteria.

Location:    School as assigned.

Reports To:    School Nutrition Director; receives day-to-day directions from designated staff.

May Provide Direction To:     Cafeteria/lunchroom aides and student aides if available.
    
General Qualifications

  1. Ability to operate kitchen appliances and equipment associated with bulk food preparation and clean-up, i.e., mixers, slicers, steam tables, blenders, dish washers, and the like.
  2. Ability to recognize the relationship between cleanliness and food safety.
  3. Basic knowledge of hygiene.
  4. Ability to follow written and oral directions.
  5. Ability to move 50 pounds of prepared food, supplies, and dishes, and to pile and stack inventory as required.  Physical capabilities include bending, twisting, repetitive side-to-side motion and repetitive wrist motion, as well as the ability to reach, carry, push, pull, lift and handle item(s) weighing up to 50 pounds while performing work duties.  Position requires unrestricted mobility on a regular and consistent basis for the majority of the workday.
  6. Demonstrable ability to work with children of the appropriate age as evidenced by prior experience with youth.

Additional “Preferred” Qualifications:

  1. High school degree / GED.
  2. Ability to meet the requirements of Assistant Cook.
  3. Six months occupational experience.

Position Typical Duties and Responsibilities: 
It is understood that individual positions covered by this job description may place significantly more emphasis on some duties over others.

  • Tray return maintenance and cleanup:

Accepting returned trays and sorting silverware and other reusable items from trash;

Separating other wastes as directed, i.e., milk from other trash;

Placing all trash in appropriate garbage containers and silverware in presoak.

  • During food service periods, maintaining paper product inventory (straws and napkins) and other supplies as needed and directed.
  • Provide for general student safety:  clean-up spills in the serving line area, identify and remove hazards, maintain general cleanliness of area.
  • Provide general support for all after meal clean-up activities; sweep, mop, wash, disinfect, sanitize.
  • Provide general support for lunchroom supervision; respond to student questions and issues; keep a general watch on activities; aid in maintaining student flow.
  • Responsible for computer set up for lunch service as follows:
  • Set up computer and read in appropriate program;
  • Function as a cashier during food service;
  • Read out information from computer;
  • Count cash and balance tills;
  • Record appropriate information;
  • Troubleshoot any computer problems.
  • Deliver and pick-up of food service mail from school office as designated.
  • Support district efforts, promotion, customer service orientation, admission and nutritional planning and marketing.
  1. Additional periodic activities.
  • Kitchen start-up at the beginning of each school year;
  • Full kitchen house-cleaning at the end of each school year;
  • Additional cleaning in accordance with the maintenance schedule or as directed by the School Nutrition
  • Director, i.e. cleaning of ovens, special disinfecting, scrubbing of floors, and the like;
  • Maintaining a bulletin board.
  • All other duties as assigned.
