Job Description

The Assistant Director of Leadership Programs plays a crucial role in fostering a dynamic and inclusive campus environment by developing, implementing, and assessing leadership development initiatives for students at in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Missouri. Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Engagement, the Assistant Director will collaborate with various campus departments and student organizations to create opportunities for students to enhance their leadership skills, personal development, and civic engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Development and Implementation:
  • Design, implement, and assess leadership development programs, workshops, and seminars tailored to the diverse needs and interests of students.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and student organizations to integrate leadership development opportunities into existing programs and initiatives across the division and campus.
Student Engagement and Support:
  • Serve as a resource and advisor for student leaders, providing guidance, mentorship, and support in their leadership journeys.
  • Facilitate leadership training sessions, retreats, and one-on-one coaching sessions to help students develop essential leadership competencies.
Event Planning and Coordination:
  • Organize and oversee leadership conferences, speaker series, and other events aimed at promoting leadership development and networking opportunities for students.
  • Manage logistics, budgeting, and marketing efforts for leadership programs and events.
Involvement Ambassadors Program:
  • Oversee the involvement ambassadors program, which connects students with involvement opportunities across 550 student organizations through one-on-one meetings and group engagements.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise a team of ambassadors to serve as peer mentors and advocates for student engagement.
Collaboration and Partnership Building:
  • Enhance existing relationships between the Center for Student Involvement, Residential Life, MizzouRec and the Wellness Resource Center to foster leadership development opportunities for students participating in Student Affairs programs.
  • In partnership with the Student Government Coordinator provide guidance and support to undergraduate student government leaders, assisting them in effectively navigating the complexities of governance, advocating for student needs, and executing their responsibilities.
  • Cultivate and maintain partnerships with academic departments, campus offices, and external organizations to expand leadership development opportunities for students.
  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to integrate leadership principles into curricular and co-curricular experiences.
Assessment and Evaluation:
  • Develop and implement assessment strategies to measure the effectiveness and impact of leadership programs and initiatives.
  • Utilize data and feedback to continuously improve and refine leadership development efforts.
Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain accurate records of program participation, budget expenditures, and other relevant data.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for departmental leadership and other stakeholders as needed.
Shift

Monday - Friday; 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

This position may require evening and weekend hours supporting activities and programs within the department. Occasionally division and campus projects may require additional hours outside of your normal schedule.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs, counseling, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience working in student affairs or a related area, with a focus on leadership development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership theories, models, and best practices in higher education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse student populations, faculty, staff, and external partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to facilitate workshops and presentations effectively.
  • Experience in program development, event planning, and project management.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to building programs inclusive of all students in all aspects of leadership programming.
  • Experience with assessment and evaluation of student learning outcomes.
  • Familiarity with leadership development resources, tools, and technologies.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring student leaders or staff.
Anticipated Hiring Range

$51,875 - $94,141; paid on a monthly basis.
