Senior Plot Caretaker
Location: AgResearch and Education Center at Milan (Milan, TN)
Description:
This position provides field support for the research, education and outreach mission of the UT AgResearch and Education Center at Milan (REC-Milan) in Milan, TN. REC-Milan supports one Center Director, three Research Associates, and 6-7 support staff.
Qualifications :
Responsibilities include:
- Assistance with implementation of agricultural research experiments on crops grown in west TN
- Accurate and up-to-date record-keeping and data collection associated with agricultural research experiments
- Operation, calibration and maintenance of large and small agricultural equipment under precise research conditions
- Production of rotational crops
- Maintenance and upkeep of facilities, grounds, buildings and equipment associated with Center
- Assistance with planning and implementation of the Milan No-Till Field Day, Fall Folklore Jamboree and other field days and special events.
- Performing other duties as assigned
Required Are:
- High School diploma or GED
- Experience with safe and efficient operation of farm equipment
- Valid driver’s license – must be able to obtain Class B CDL (commercial driver’s license) within 60 days of employment
- Ability to obtain Private or Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification within 60 days of employment
- Team player with effective communication skills
- Skills including welding, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and/or repair and maintenance of vehicles and farm equipment
- Experience with GIS based systems for planting, spraying, fertilizing and/or harvesting
- 3 years row crop farm or agriculture experience.
- Ability to perform physical work in various environments/weather conditions including extreme heat and cold
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team as needed
- Ability to follow instructions
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs
