Job Summary

University Faculty Information & Support ( UFIS) is seeking an eager software developer to join our development team utilizing Agile/ SCRUM processes.

The qualified candidate follows our department's general guidelines and technical approaches, but also proactively keeps up on trends, makes recommendations, and is willing to develop new skills and learn new technologies. The qualified candidate will participate in the design, development, implementation, testing, deployment, and support of a suite of online applications. The best candidate has solid development and analytical skills to translate business requirements into modern and user-friendly applications, as well as excellent troubleshooting and researching issues to find root causes and fix existing code.

Comments

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 1-3 years of experience in the field or in a related area.

Preferences

All the following preferences are considered a bonus, but are not required to apply for the position:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or equivalency
  • Software development in a professional setting
  • PHP (Laravel)
  • HTML, CSS, Javascript (Vue)
  • Familiarity with SQL
  • Expertise with an IDE or editor, like vim, IntelliJ, VSCode
  • Working knowledge of Git
  • Exposure to ticketing systems like Jira
  • Analytical and troubleshooting abilities
  • Experience working with a Business Analyst or Product Manager to gather and understand requirements
  • Experience working closely with QA to quickly iterate through issues
  • Excellent documentation skills
  • Team player with demonstrated interpersonal skills who is effective with oral and written communication
  • Desire to become a full stack developer
  • Experience with modern web frameworks – we're using Laravel, Vue, Webpack, and related technologies
  • Familiarity with Node, npm/yarn, and related technologies
  • Experience with containerization technology a la Docker
