Job Summary

Job Summary

Under minimal supervision, the Complex Epilepsy Nurse Manager ( CENM) will be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and controlling all aspects pertaining to optimizing the patient experience across the spectrum of complex and surgical epilepsy care. This includes all components related to clinical workflow, patient relations and education, research recruitment and execution, programmatic outreach and expansion functions of the Pediatric Complex Epilepsy Program ( PCEP), as administered collaboratively through the Departments of Pediatrics (Division of Pediatric Neurology), Department of Pediatric Neurosurgery, and Brain and Spine Center (Primary Children's Hospital).

Primary responsibilities for the CENM are four-fold and targeted to ensure the best possible patient experience within the PCEP. Responsibilities include: oversight and management of in- and out-patient workflow processes (with focus on inpatient environment and invasive/noninvasive EEG application); facilitation of the clinical and research goals within the PCEP, including (but not limited to) enrollment into and execution within the Personalized Medicine Program; oversight of the specialty clinical services (ketogenic diet, RNS/ VNS, epilepsy surgery clinic); and oversight and facilitation of the Epilepsy Surgery program. Responsibilities will invariably require skill in the domains of customer service, clinical staff management, and financial operations/management.

The CENM goals, in addition to the processes described above, will include: optimizing EEG utilization; refining specialty clinics ( ESC, VNS/ RNS, SUDEP); liaising with institutional representatives (e.g. NTU Nurse Manager, Director of Surgical Services, Outpatient Clinic Manager, etc.) on behalf of the PCEP; elevating nursing education standards; initiating and executing quality improvement projects; enhancing community outreach and public relations; development of a successful philanthropy program; and mentorship of junior clinical staff. Ultimately, all areas relevant to establishing the best patient experience possible will fall under the duties of the CENM. The CENM will be expected to pursue lifelong learning career opportunities, particularly an administrative leadership course within two years of starting in this position.

The CENM will function as an equal partner within leadership of the PCEP, working closely with both the Medical and Surgical Directors (Doctors Sweney and Bollo), and will report directly to PCH Brain and Spine Center Leadership, specifically Medical Director (Josh Bonkowsky, MD/PhD), Surgical Director (Rob Bollo, MD), and PCH Brain and Spine Program Director (Seth Andrews, MBA).
