Join A Team Crafted of Virginia's Top Shelf Talent! The Virginia ABC Bureau of Law Enforcement, Compliance Unit is currently recruiting for the position of Compliance Audit Supervisor.
This position is responsible for ensuring, that audits of licensed wine and beer wholesalers, breweries, wineries and farm wineries (industry licensees) are completed in a timely manner. Audits of these licensees ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations and that the Authority is collecting the proper amount of wine and beer taxes due.
The primary focus of this position is to support control and revenue by effectively managing the development, implementation, and maintenance of diverse integrated compliance audits focusing on Virginia ABC licensed entities required to report and pay excise taxes to the Commonwealth. The audits support service by including analysis on "red flag" items to 'identify potential fraud and ensure the integrity of the three-tier distribution system in Virginia. This position supervises teams of field auditors and is responsible for effectively managing the Tax Audit function.

Areas of Responsibility:
- This position serves as the supervisor for the Audit section of the Compliance Unit and is responsible for overseeing audits ensuring all entities are audited in a timely and fair manner. Ensuring Audits are conducted in accordance with generally accepted auditing standards and accounting principles (GAAS & GAAP), the Code of Virginia, ABC policies, procedures, and regulations, and any applicable federal laws.
- This position will be integral in developing the program, hiring and training new employees and implementing process improvement to the program.
- Provide supervision and development opportunities for their staff including training employees, assigning work responsibilities, performance evaluations and employee problem solving issues.
- Responsible for but not limited to all audit plans, programs, and templates, staff training and development, audit scheduling, as well as conducting field audits.
- Provides leadership, guidance; direction and effective supervision to tax auditors to ensure audit goals and objectives are accomplished.
- Frequently interacts with corporate officials, attorneys, U.S. and Foreign suppliers, the general public other and sections within the agency.
- Responsible for managing and scheduling internal audits for the Bureau of Law Enforcement. This position does not conduct investigations, however audit work may include support of Enforcement investigations
- This is a working supervisory position that involves not only supervising the unit but also actively performing the tasks of their subordinate employees
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possess related working experience in performing, analyzing and conducting audits in the audit field or a related type field.
- Considerable experience using financial software and spreadsheets, using internal control policies, performing arithmetic procedures such as accounting or inventory work requiring logical determination of the accuracy of data, verifying documents for accuracy and completion, conducting reconciliation, and creating demonstrative evidence from multiple sources of documentation.
- Knowledge of team management techniques, leadership ideals, staff supervision, staff development techniques, and employee training/mentoring is a must.
- Demonstrate the ability to serve as a team manager and leader, and apply sound management techniques including training, evaluating, and assigning work to meet deadlines while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Additional skills include considerable skills in the use of personal computers, scanners, office equipment, Excel, Word, databases, inventory controls, and calculators/adding machines.
- Demonstrate the ability to build and manipulate spreadsheets and databases, enter data including confidential data, gather and analyze pertinent information, and produce and/or evaluate statistical, financial and comprehensive audit reports.
- Extensive skills in communicating effectively orally and in writing, conveying information and handling stressful situations effectively is a must.
- Excellent internal and external customer service and listening skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel to travel within the Commonwealth is required and overnight stays may be required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Bachelor's Degree in accounting/auditing, business, or a related field (course work in personal computers, automated databases, mathematics, etc.) or significant work experience in these areas and/or wholesaling or manufacturing environments
- Knowledge in Virginia wine and beer wholesale operations, commercial and farm winery operations, brewery operations and applicable State and Federal laws, Virginia Administrative Code, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, and Agency rules.
- Related experience (auditing) in wholesaling or manufacturing environments
- Possess progressive experience performing and/or supervising a variety of audits,
- Experience in supervision, as a team leader, managing field teams without physical presence
- Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or related certification preferred.
